being otherkin can help you cope but it’s not a coping mechanism (in fact, it’s sometimes very hard to deal with). coping mechanisms are things a person adopts to help them cope, be they good or bad; as otherkin is something you can’t choose to become, it’s not a coping mechanism.
I think what you mean is that it is not inherently a coping mechanism? Your pre-exsting otherkin identity can become a coping mechanism but it will not go away when you no longer need it and it existed before you needed it (though it is possible to discover an otherkin identity that you previously thought to be a copinglink, the point is it existed whether or not you knew of it).

I mean, I guess, but I phrased it how I did because I thought that would cause the least confusion; adding “inherently” sort of adds another layer of complexity to an issue that’s already somewhat difficult for some people. I just thought that my wording was the simplest way to put it.
