if you have a personality disorder youre 100% responsible for your toxic behavior & how you treat others, having a pd isnt a pass to be abusive
this is dumb
a few people unfollowed me after i said this. mind you, the op is 18 years old and most likely NOT an expert in psychology or the mentioned category of mental disorders for that matter, like…
… it’s literally a personality disorder, though? like, i get what they’re trying to say, but you can’t say that someone is 100% responsible for their traumas and developed coping mechanisms. the least thing you can do is respect their coping mechanisms and this is coming from someone who is in a clinical environment that is specialized in treating personality disorders. the main message we are constantly getting is: respect each other’s coping mechanisms. call people out, but RESPECT EACH OTHER’S COPING MECHANISMS. Respect their traumas. This is not a one way street. There’s a reason why people have pd’s and it’s not ‘100% their responsibility’, that’s complete bullshit.
Stop trying to convey this message that when people aren’t suffering from mental disorders they get to choose what is or what isn’t acceptable. The whole reason people are categorized as having a pd, is BECAUSE they are deviating from the ‘norm’ personality-wise. So how can you use what they’re suffering from against them? As a reason to call their behaviors toxic. Toxic in what way, though? The people who are suffering the most from pd’s are the actual pd sufferers. Of course your behavior is ‘toxic’ as a pd-sufferer, that’s literally why you are labeled as having a pd. You can label pretty much any behavior that’s a symptom of whichever pd as toxic. Does that mean you have to avoid people with pd’s at all times? That you can dump them at any moment?
ftr, I am not condoning any abusive behavior. I just don’t like the wording of this, I don’t like how this is being passed on and I’m extremely wary of how younger kids on this website are gonna take this. Probably the wrong way and probably to the extremes. No offense, but this is really bologna.
