Important psa
It’s a touchy topic but I just want to remind everyone that sexual activities of any and all kinds are not inherently empowering and can actually be forms of self harm.
If you are a victim of any kind of sexual abuse, it is actually quite likely that you will fall into a pattern of sexual activity as self harm at some point in your life.
This includes everything from regular unprotected sexual encounters to watching porn, and everything in between. All of these activities can be used to harm yourself physically or emotionally.
If you are a survivor and find yourself regularly engaging in any kind of sexual activity thinking “this is going to hurt/this is going to be uncomfortable/I am not going to like this/ I am going to feel bad after this/I have to do this to myself” it is likely you are practicing self harm.
Additionally, if you engage in any sexual activities and find that you repeatedly do not feel present during them, you feel totally out of body, detached mentally and emotionally, or you feel consistently terrible physically and/or emotionally after they are over, this is another sign you may be self harming.
I’m not here to judge, I’m merely here to inform and remind. Survivors, please be careful. Please be mindful and do your best to watch out for your physical and mental/emotional health when it comes to any kind of sexual activity. It doesn’t get talked about a lot but it’s important. You deserve to be happy and healthy in all areas of your life.
